Hi, I'm Andrew Coca

Question Everything, Build What Matters.

I’ve spent my career founding and building companies across technology and real estate — leading teams and building software products used at scale.

Some of that work is public-facing. Much of it happens quietly, behind the scenes.

Animal Base is different.

It’s the most personal company I’ve built — and also the first one that requires telling the story behind why it exists.

THE WAKE-UP CALL

About five years ago, I suffered a serious knee injury.

I tore my ACL, MCL, PCL, and meniscus, and underwent multiple surgeries. Surgery was necessary — what came after surgery was not.

Recovery dragged on far longer than expected. Mobility suffered. My weight climbed. My energy collapsed. I tried to return to hockey, but each time I skated I left the ice with pain that didn’t subside for days.

I followed the protocols. Physical therapy. RICE method. Medication. Another Surgery.

None of it produced meaningful progress.

That’s when I stopped asking, “What’s the next step?”, and instead asked, “What’s missing from this model of understanding?”

That’s when I realized the knee health model was broken.

The problem wasn’t that the model was incomplete — it was that it was built from the wrong information from the start. And any information that fell outside sanctioned mainstream paradigms wasn’t just ignored, it was discouraged, dismissed, and often treated as dangerous.

That’s why finding Ben Patrick’s Knees Over Toes program changed my life.

It sat outside mainstream dogma — and it worked. Within days, my knee did what years of “proper” recovery never produced. Pain faded. Strength returned. Within a couple weeks, I was back to playing ice hockey with zero pain.

That wasn’t just a physical recovery.

It was proof that the pursuit of truth can take nothing for granted. When we build models of understanding, we do so from within the underlying paradigms we ascribe to and believe in — and an unchallenged paradigm is equivalent to dogma.

QUESTION EVERYTHING

Once you recognize a flawed model in one domain, it becomes hard not to notice them in others.

How much of our “common sense” is really just inherited dogma? How much of our daily lives are spent on autopilot, unquestioning sanctioned mainstream beliefs?

I started asking those same questions about nutrition.

I wasn’t chasing a look, an identity, or a diet to defend. I was trying to make sense of the world around me — exploring ideas and pursuing truth, wherever it led.

This journey led me to animal-based nutrition, and to voices like Paul Saladino and Shawn Baker, who were willing to question official health narratives — despite the professional and reputational risks of doing so.

I was inspired.

I started getting involved.

I began angel investing in companies aligned with this way of thinking — including Rosie’s Chips and Revero. I spent time with founders building outside mainstream health incentives.

I attended gatherings focused on metabolic health and animal-based living, like the Animal-Based Gathering in Costa Rica. I supported independent research efforts pushing for better science and the pursuit of truth.

And in the end, the same issue kept surfacing.

The people existed.
The knowledge existed.
The products and events existed.

But everything lived in silos.

BUILD WHAT MATTERS

It was time to build Animal Base.

While spending time at the Animal-Based Gathering in Costa Rica in 2025, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was leaving something on the table — that I wasn’t contributing in the way I actually could.

I’m not an influencer or a coach. I’m an entrepreneur and a builder. Building platforms is what I know how to do, and it’s where I have real leverage.

Animal Base is my contribution to this movement: a technology platform that brings the people, ideas, research, and products I kept encountering into one place — not to simplify them or turn them into dogma, but to make them easier to explore, connect, and engage with.

Animal Base is the home base for this work — a place to learn, to discover, and take action toward building a vibrant and healthy life.
